More on "Why Blog?"

Blogging well, and regularly, is a big time commitment. So, I occassionally think about whether to blog and what to blog about. My current reasons for blogging are:

  1. Building personal brand (letting those that are interested know how I think about things and what I think about)
  2. Shine a light on topics that are particularly interesting to me
  3. Contribute to the greater good
  4. Build a (public) diary (so that I can in the future review what I did and what interested me)

I’m sure that this list will evolve over time; it seems rather unfocused to me.

BTW, Here are a couple of great posts about effective blogging:

  1. Have a purpose.
  2. You are going to suck, get over it.
  3. Get used to pressing that Publish button.

  1. Use your own domain.
  2. Create a custom theme.
  3. Use Google Analytics.
  4. Use Google Webmaster Tools.
  5. Create sitemaps.
  6. Use Feedburner.
  7. Add a favicon.
  8. Learn web basics.
  9. Provide site search.
  10. Write with a voice.
  11. Post regularly.
  12. Be social.
